Valuable Research

Our project arises from the need to develop studies that investigate key aspects of women’s health. Since this has traditionally been an area overlooked or assimilated to research done on men, there is a significant lack of research to deeply understand all the biological processes occurring in our bodies. Therefore, in addition to contributing by expanding knowledge with our study, we are committed to informing our participants and sharing the results of our research with society, which is a fundamental principle for our team.

On this page, you can learn about the scientific background of Manuela.

Phase I: National survey

Our project, Manuela, will begin with an online survey to gather data on women’s health in Spain, including perceptions, needs, habits, and lifestyles. Through an anonymous survey, we aim to learn more about women aged 16 and older living in Spain

We will collect demographic data, information on health and well-being, nutrition and microbiota, and sexual and reproductive health. These data will provide us with new scientific insights.

Phase II: Biological analysis

In a second phase, Manuela will conduct biological sample collection for the analysis of oral, vaginal, and fecal microbiota, allowing us to understand the microbiota of women in Spain. With this data, we will study the relationship between diet, lifestyle, external factors affecting the microbiota, and women’s health.

Participants will be able to send their samples securely and anonymously to our laboratories, providing valuable information to the scientific team that will help advance this field.

Results

We consider it crucial to share the results clearly, understandably, and effectively with all participants and society at large. Here, we will share the project’s results as they become available.

Additionally, we aim to promote scientific dissemination through various activities such as infographics, videos, podcasts, and blogs. We believe that by improving available information on nutrition and microbiota, we can positively impact women’s health and quality of life. Furthermore, we want to bring a gender perspective to research to advance towards a more inclusive science.
